Outlook Portal

Quite by accident I discovered a very simple way to allow access to many of my computers resources. I have called it an “Outlook Portal". (Install the Portal here: Installation Page)

A portal is generally a term used in computers to describe a web page that gives you access to the internet, for example Lycos and Yahoo.

I use the computer for much of the day, and commonly have Outlook running all the time. Also now that I have broadband I very often have broadband connected as well.

I discovered that I could change the default settings of Outlook and for a particular folder I could display my own web page. I experimented with different web pages and found that the simplest and the easiest thing to do was to create a table in MS Word and fill each cell of the table with a different link. It is also possible to have a different graphic file displaying behind the table so that you can have a very nice looking portal for your outlook. Also MS Word provides you with a very nice interface for adding links to a word document, although it does not support paste, which is a bit of a pain.
